Diatheke unveil their incredible concept album of progressive death metal, ...And The Word Was God!

Formed in 2017, after the disbanding of previous project Citadel, Diatheke’s story has been a turbulent one, plagued by the pressures exerted by everyday life and a fluctuating line-up. Since they first sparked into life they have released a handful of impressive singles, including a 2022 cover of Extol’s ‘Embraced’ – after which Diatheke were snapped up by Rottweiler Records - and their interpretation of the 19th century carol ‘It Came Upon A Midnight Clear’ as part of Rottweiler’s Christmas 2023 releases. Now at long last the band are ready to unveil their full length debut album, an incredible conceptual piece that attempts to tell the entire biblical story of time – from the creation, through the fall of mankind, to ultimate redemption. Brave and ambitious lyrically and simply breathtaking in its musical scope and intricacy, …And The Word Was God is a remarkable achievement in the field of extreme, progressive music.

The sheer immensity of the concept which Diatheke have taken on with their debut album is reflected in each of its six gargantuan tracks. Such is the multifaceted complexity and overwhelming intensity of songs like ‘The Creator’ that they demand your undivided attention and complete focus; look away from its undulating, flickering, leaping progress and you’ll be lost in the staggered rhythms, the shifting tempos – from measured and methodical, to rolling and tumbling, to furious speed and intensity – the varied vocal timbres and the bewildering musicianship. The contrast between the direct, claustrophobic darkness of ‘The Deceiver’ and the light and space afforded to the cascading riffs of ‘The Promise’ is stunning, an example of how each song stands alone and yet also works with those around it. From the first evocative notes of ‘The Creator’ that take you across the star fields and galaxies, the awe-inspiring immensity of creation, to the triumphant, glorious conclusion of ‘The Coronation’, this album takes you on the most epic of journeys. There is no way to take in everything that …And The Word Was God has to offer in a handful of listens, the depth and breadth of Diatheke’s creation is overwhelming, daunting, emotive and magnificent.

Every nuance of …And The Word Was God has been brought to vibrant life by the mixing and mastering of Hunter Shaw and Sam Striker of Native Darkness Productions, while the accompanying imagery crafted by Daniel Hambright of Elynia Productions and Gragoth of Luciferium War Graphics set the final seal of quality on this amazing album. When Rottweiler Records release …And The Word Is God on March 21st it will stand as a towering testament to Diatheke’s vision and belief, their limitless imagination and artistry.
