Just a few days before Christmas, Las Vegas metal core band Haddonfield unveiled their latest single “Strength In Chaos”. It was a perfect present for metal lovers, complete with biting vocals, impressive instrumentals, and high energy. During a season dominated by more demure, lighthearted music, listeners were overdue for a song they could rage to and Haddonfield delivered.
“Strength In Chaos” is perhaps Haddonfield’s strongest work yet, featuring layered complexities that are revealed more and more with each additional listen. Each band member is given ample space to not only showcase their talents but to truly thrive in their respective moments in the spotlight. The result is a song that is fascinating on all levels while remaining well organized and cohesive.
For as much as the band clearly understands how to get loud and totally dominate with their sound, they also demonstrate a great ability to weave in and out of each other fluidly. There are moments of near silence, lengths of time without any vocals at all, but none of these moments ever feel like pauses on the way to the rest of the song. Instead, it feels like active storytelling, with the song transforming into itself throughout its 5 minute runtime.
All in all, Haddonfield gave the music world one hell of a Christmas present. If this is how the band intends to close out 2024, then all eyes should be on them, eagerly awaiting whatever they might decide to give us in the coming new year.
