Interview with Henrik of Black Income

Black Income, is a new Rock identity emerged from the grunge-wave in the 90s, combining elements from Stoner and Fuzz-Rock. Black Income may be inspired by other acts, but with our own unique sound and feel.

Check out my chat with Henrik below:

Emmy: How did the name come about?

Henrik: Hehe.. not the first time we get asked about that… well to us it’s more like an alternative to the ordinary, more like rebelion of freedom, do what you wanna do, even if its includes you to stray from the system, it’s about the only thing you can do in today's world, so if Black Income is your way out… do it…

Emmy: How would you describe your genre to someone who isn't familiar with your music?

Henrik: We get the question a lot, and we’re not just some ordinary Alt. Rock band, we aim to create a unique feeling and sound.. so to people who never had listened to our music, it’s would be something like, a Dark alternative Rock sound with element’s from Stoner Rock and Fuzz Rock, combined into a deadly cocktail with a Melodic twist.

Emmy: How did the band form?

Henrik: We started out in 2012’ish, we wanted to do a more honest approach on the Post Grunge Scene, so we started recording our first album ‘Noise Pollution’, we recorded the first album in Medley Studio Copenhagen with producer and long time friend Soren Andersen, the album was released in 2016 via Mighty Music, after touring with the album, we kept developing our Sound and Music and in 2017 we started recording the new album ’unSOUND’, part of it is recorded in Medley Studio Copenhagen, and Tube IT Studio in Fredericia. This is the first album we release our self, keeping all royalties and rights, that's new to us.

Emmy: What are some of the artists that influence you?

Henrik: It’s no secret that we love the 90’s sound and feel, there where so much great music coming out of the 90’s, so we find inspiration in bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden, but also the more stoned desert kinda bands like Queens Of The Stone Age / Clutch and Fu manchu, we find a lot of our inspiration in the grooving wild riff’s and sounds, without repeating it but still letting inspire by it.

Emmy: If you could tour with any artist or band (still active or not) who would it be?

Henrik: We would love to play gigs with bands like Foo Fighters or Alice in chains, but we aim to do our own shows, but it would be amazing opening for a bigger band that's for sure.

Emmy: What's your favorite show you've played?

Henrik: Ohh.. hmmm it depends on how you define a great show… we played a lot of gigs opening for acts like Tygers Of Pan Tang, Bullet and Exumer Etc. but we prefer to play the smaller venues, where you get to meet the fans, it's a more intense experience and you connect more with people, and when things come together, that's where the magic happens.

Emmy: What's the future hold for the band?

Henrik: Right now we are playing a release gig on our new album ‘unSOUND’, later in 2020 we are planning touring, until then we plan to go into the studio again and start recording album 3, we have a lot of songs written already, and we aim to release it in start of next year.
