Magnolia Bayou - Strange Place

Writer: EMSU MediaEMSU Media

Anyone who knows me, I am a big fan of that classic rock sound with slamming guitars. That's exactly what this band is. Their newest release "Strange Place" smacked me in the face on first listen.

Magnolia Bayou is a rock band, born on the bayous of South Mississippi. Their roots run deep through the rich soil of the Mississippi Delta all the way down to the muddy waters of Mexico. Because their upbringings stretch so far across the state, a vast array of influences are carried throughout their music, which is soaked with the sound and soul of their southern heritage. In the three short years since their formation, they have paid their dues up and down the Mississippi Blues Trail and have toured extensively through the surrounding south and throughout The United States. Full of energy and soul, the band carries a dynamic show that captivates its audience and transports them back to the late 60’s and 70’, a time when music was epic.

The first track that instantly caught my attention was "Sleeping' In The Dog House" has this insane bluesy rock riff with some vocals that slam right in your face.

This record has a mix of heavy bluesy riffs and some slow airy numbers as well. "Sweet Magnolia " is one of the slow numbers that was also one of the leading singles off the record. The lyrics in this track are so artsy and beautiful. features background vocals by MAGGIE BROWN along with Gus Barnett GUS BARNETT (harp) and WALTON JONES (organ and piano), and was recorded at NATCHEZ SOUND STUDIO.

I also wanted to mention "Hands In The Dirt" has some shredding vocals, and I would love to blast this driving down a back road in the middle of summer.

I love that track SO much.

All in all this record is such a solid listen and is produced incredibly well.

Great job boys, you earned yourself a new fan.
