Styx Successfully Rocked Parx's Xcite Center

Legendary rockers Styx opened up their first May weekend run in Bensalem for a sold-out crowd on May 5, 2023. With no opening act and a little under two full hours of music, fans anxiously packed into the Xcite Center at Parx Casino ready for a nostalgic good time.

The band did a refreshing change-up of their set list from the Live & UnZoomed Tour. They opened with "To Those" rather than "The Fight of Our Lives" this time. We also saw the addition of other hits we'd seen live for the first time ourselves like "Crystal Ball", "Lorelei", and "Miss America". (It goes without saying that some usual fun culprits such as "Blue Collar Man (Long Nights)", "Rockin' the Paradise", "Too Much Time on My Hands", and "Come Sail Away" stayed on the list for a reason; there's no way to go to a Styx show and not see those songs live.)

Guitarist James Young's absence was felt last time we saw them in August, so it was great seeing him on stage again. All of the band were on their A-game as far as performance and showmanship go, as is usually the case with a Styx performance. (You can't go to a Styx show without seeing Lawrence Gowan running around and dancing with an infectious smile on his face.) The band had great energy on a Friday night, and the dancing and singing crowd reciprocated that.

Styx has numerous tour dates scheduled throughout the rest of 2023 including opening up The Great Allentown Fair on August 30, 2023 with REO Speedwagon. Make sure you get out there and see them if they hit your neck of the woods!
